64 Slices CT Scanner

25/1/2008

The CT scan is a non-invasive technology, It's a good test for excluding cardiac disease. For example it's good for people that have high cholesterol or a family history.

The results can be pretty definitive. If the study is absolutely normal, we can say with a certainty of about 97-98% that there is no coronary artery disease (blocked arteries).

If the reverse is true and the test shows a blockage – doctors may then send the patient for a catheterization to see it is true or not. Patients with previous bypass andor stent are not the best candidates for this procedure.

It’s important to note that the 64-slice CT scanner is not likely to replace the gold standard, cardiac catheterization. It is simply another tool doctors can use to diagnose disease.

Are you having a Heart Aattck

25/1/2008

There is a warning tonight for those at risk of a heart attack to go to the nearest hospital equipped and staffed to do angioplasties.

New research says you should make sure you or someone you love is taken to a hospital that can perform the procedure called angioplasty.

The fact is, many patients who live in outlying areas are not transported directly to a hospital that can perform this important procedure which opens up blocked arteries. And if then the person is transferred to a hospital that does do it, in many cases, it’s simply too late.

Now, new research released by the American Heart Association shows that heart attack patients who are transferred from one hospital to another so that the patient can get emergency balloon angioplasty often experience such a long delay in treatment, that the benefit of doing the procedure is diminished markedly, almost making the transfer meaningless.

Toledo Cardiology staff are practicing what they preach.

Heart health is important to the physicians and staff of Toledo Cardiology. To show just how important, the physicians have agreed to allow the staff to walk for 20 minutes each day on company time.
