Stress tests:
Introduction:
Patients with clogged coronary arteries may have minimal symptoms and
unremarkable EKG at rest, on the other hand some patients could have a lot of
symptoms and EKG changes with no heart disease. Both groups needs a special test
to identify the needs for any more aggressive invasive testing, and both could
benefit from a cardiac stress test, during which exercise or chemical is used to
stress the heart and identify any abnormalities could suggest heart disease.
Preparation:
Do not eat for three hours before the test
Diabetic patients need special instruction about the use of their oral meds or insulin.
Check with your doctor about taking your regular medication. Specific cardiac medication may be held for 24 hours before test.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and clothes for the exercise stress testing.
Inform your doctors if you
develop any kind of chest pain within 24 hours before the test.
